As far as condominiums go, SC Global's got to be my favourite developer. It's a lifestyle concept that SC Global is selling- their unstinting devotion to the best finishes, their exclusive lifestyle magazine; are all testament to the upscale niche market that they are targeting. Their projects include the Ladyhill, Boulevard Residence and Lincoln Modern.
All of the above projects are typically big on luxe. Lincoln Modern would serve as the hip sister within the trinity. Developed by architect Chan Soo Khian, Lincoln Modern spells like a modern industrial warehouse-hotel feel. With exit stairwells made of perforated steel that enable you to look all the way down, high ceilings with modern vibrant colours- it exudes a very modern, hotel-like feel to the whole place. The only thing missing's got to be the check-in/out counter.
Getting down to the numbers, Lincoln Modern consists of 56 split-level loft apartments, with 6m high ceilings to create the feeling of space. Double glazed windows deflect the heat; a glass curtain wall allows plenty of light to enter the apartment and motorised shades in the ceiling allow residents to block out the sun when needed.
The ultra-modern, Mies Van der Rohe approach is softened by the incorporation of smooth materials like polished beech timber strips and honed limestone. The beauty is in the details-like the newspaper holder by the front door, and the timber grating surrounding the bathtub which doubles up as a shower stall.
Kitchen cabinets are in stainless steel and the bathroom fittings are undeniably Starck.
Canadian beechwood was chosen from Jason Parquet for the flooring in the apartments.
.
Stone and granite has also been used to balance up the 'cold' utilitarian effects of steel and glass.
The lift lobby walls, bathroom and powder room floors and walls feature Italian limestone tiling, with polished curved black granite on the vanity tops and kitchen floor. Flamed black granite paving is used in the corridors and lift lobby floors. Volpato Stone also provided stone for external landscaping features, such as mosaic tiles in the swimming pool, outdoor paving and water features.
The refined yet practical design of the space is continued in the bathrooms, which feature clean lines and Axor Starck fittings from Hansgrohe.
Philippe Starck design can also be seen in the sanitaryware, imported from Germany by Hemsley Holding. The Duravit Philippe Starck toilet suite, from the Edition1 series, features Starck's trademark clean lines, and was specified for powder and changing rooms. The common and master bathrooms feature Duravit Cortina wall-hung toilets and Duravit Architect basins.
